Art / art exhibition
Summer exhibition of work from illustrator Naomi Clarke comes to Tobacco Factory
Graduating from Bristol, commercial illustrator, designer and educator Naomi Clarke is now based in Cardiff, where she makes work that ranges from surface pattern design to murals, and editorial illustration to creative collage.
Whatever the project, a bold, bright aesthetic, and an abiding interest in curiosity, sustainability, community, adventure and travel underpins her approach.
“I like creating artwork that puts a smile on someone’s face!” she enthuses.
is needed now More than ever

‘The Coopers Arm’ collage
“My artistic style is inspired by painting, printmaking and collage work. I create illustrations with a skewed perspective, using a mixture of 2D and 3D.
“The majority of my work is created digitally, but I have recently started making hand-cut collages with my own textures.”

As a regular workshop leader in schools and other settings, Clarke is passionate about inspiring people to follow their own creative impulses, and find what makes them happy through art.
“The joy of illustration, particularly in the medium of collage, the process of cutting and sticking is so relaxing and the end product isn’t necessarily the goal,” she reflects. “It’s much more enjoyable to enjoy the process.

Illustration of ‘Vienna’
“Illustration has many forms of output and styles, so there is really a wide range to express yourself creatively.”
Clarke will be bringing together a range of her illustration work to exhibit at the Tobacco Factory’s Snug room from June 24: from small original collages to pencil sketches, giclée prints of her digital work of varying landscapes and examples of her favourite work over recent years.

‘Brandon Hill’ collage
Naomi Clarke is exhibiting at The Snug room, Tobacco Factory, from June 24-August 11 (open from 10am daily). There will be a special private view evening on June 28 at 7-9pm, during which the artist will be selling cards, prints and other products.
