Unique landscape of Avon Gorge celebrated in new mural

By Martin Booth  Friday Mar 24, 2023

A new mural by one of Bristol’s most acclaimed street artists celebrates the unique landscape of the Avon Gorge.

The mural by Harriet Wood, aka HazardOne, is on display in the Chapter & Holmes courtyard at the Clifton Hub on the Bristol side of the Suspension Bridge.

Each of the three panels are able to be won in a prize draw raising funds to support the educational work of the visitor centre on the other side of Brunel’s famous span.

The mural features species including the Bristol onion and the Bristol whitebeam, an endangered tree species unique to the Avon Gorge.

Specialist advice about the plants and their features was provided by the Avon Gorge & Downs Wildlife Project.

“Getting a project like this is super special,” HazardOne told Bristol24/7.

“Partly because I get to paint what I love painting, which is botanicals, florals and plants.

“When I first came to Bristol, one of the first things that I found out when I visited the bridge was that this site was so unique for specific wildlife.

“So when this opportunity came around, I worked closely with the Avon Gorge & Downs Wildlife Project to create an image that is informative as well as being quite bright, which changes up the area.”
