University of Bristol seeks lead artist for ‘Wild Spaces’ public art commission
The University of Bristol has announced an open call for a lead artist on a major public art commission for its flagship Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus (TQEC), which is currently in development and expected to be completed by 2026.
Entitled ‘Wild Spaces’, the 18-month commission is one of three such projects to be delivered in conjunction with the Contemporary Art Society consultancy and The Cabot Institute for the Environment in the run-up to the opening of the new campus.
The commission will take place in conjunction with the build, and will result in a creative participatory programme alongside a series of temporary artworks that reflect the importance of the local ecology.
is needed now More than ever
For the University, the project will offer visitors a valuable lens through which to consider the many natural landscapes and wild places that occur in and around Bristol’s urban settings.

“We’re looking for an artist who will find imaginative ways to collaborate with the University and community partners to create a dialogue between people and place, providing new perspectives on the site’s relationship with water and the natural landscape,” they say.
The resulting artworks will play a key role in making the new campus a place that benefits the wider community.
“With exceptional facilities and publicly accessible spaces, TQEC builds on the University’s global civic ambitions, providing further opportunities to connect with Bristol and the wider world.
“The campus will be car free and the most sustainable part of our estate. The public realm will be an open and welcoming space for everyone to enjoy.”
The Artist Brief and full details on how to apply are available on the University of Bristol public art website.
The closing date for Expressions of Interest is October 28.
