Artist Willem de Rooij presents a major new exhibition at Arnolfini. Dutch artist Willem de Rooij works in a variety of media, including film and installation. 

While he’s interested in the beauty of images and materials, he is also aware of the impact of context and the institutional framing of art works. Though sometimes de Rooij’s approach to political meaning is more direct. The installation Index: Riots, Protest, Mourning and Commemoration  is an impressive selection of global political struggles, which also invites also a closer look into the mechanics of representation: how do people present themselves “in protest”?
