By Emily Spivey  Tuesday Jan 16, 2018

A poetry anthology consisting of 42 contributors from across the UK is set to launch at Waterstones (Galleries), Bristol, on the 27th January at 7pm.

Lyrically Justified Vol 2 is ready to buy now

Lyrically Justified Vol II is a thought-provoking collection of poetry written from the perspective of a group of racially and culturally diverse writers. With social injustice at the forefront of modern day life, this book sets out to build a community of voices and bring hope to future generations, as they shed light on a variety of themes including family, society, unity and disconnect.

Spanning from Bristol to Scotland, writers include: Charmaine Laurence, Cleo Lake, Dareece James, Hannah Teasedale, Jasmine Ketibuah Foley, Miles Chambers, Rana Jai Rajput, Razor, Nattylyn Jeffers, Roger Griffith, Saju Iqbal Ahmed, Sukina Douglas and many more.

Lead editor Shaun Clarke lives in Bristol and expresses excitement ahead of the launch: “With great pride we present these unconventional anthologies, exploring our diverse UK cultures. Such apt voices represent a new and inclusive intersection in contemporary poetry.” Bristol Mayor, Marvin Rees, also highlights the importance of the collection: “It’s great to see poems engaging in themes usually excluded from typical poetry.”

Lyrically Justified Vol II has already received national acclaim: “Lyrically justified plays a significant part in the evolution of new writers, poets and artists – a worthy book of some of the best words on paper,” says BBC journalist Kevin Philemone.

The launch event will take place between 7 and 9pm, promising a night of poetic delight, with contributors presenting their work in a spoken word display. You can also get your hands on a signed copy of the volume towards the end of the event.
