Bookshop to move into bigger premises
The printer was whirring in Heron Books on a recent morning.
On the pages emerging from the machine were plans for the interior of the bookshop’s new home which will allow space for more books, more events and even being able to make a cup of tea.
Almost since opening Heron Books within the Clifton Arcade in October 2022, Lizzie Moss has been searching for bigger premises and now she has found the perfect location.
is needed now More than ever
The new and improved Heron Books will be located within a former hairdressers on Regent Street.
Work is currently underway on the new shop which is due to open on February 8 once the books and shelves have been carried the few hundred yards from their current home.

“It’s lovely here and a brilliant place to get started, but pleasingly we have outgrown it,” said Lizzie, in-between serving customers.
“We’re not moving somewhere massive. We’re not about growth for the sake of it. But we really are excited about being able to make a cup of tea!”
Around 4,000 books are stocked on their current shelves, with only a thousand more due to be sold in the new shop but which will be displayed with more covers on show.
“A little bit of storage space will also be life-changing,” said Lizzie, a former teacher and Waterstones manager.
“We would never leave the village. We said at the start that we wanted to build a shop for the community.
“It’s absolutely the place where we want to be and there are so many people in Clifton Village who want to support independent shops like ours which is really important.”
