Bristol Short Story Prize 2016 launches
The 2016 Bristol Short Story Prize is now open and accepting entries from talented wordsmiths looking to get a leg up in the fiercely competitive world of fiction writing.
Now in its 9th year, the international prize founded by the editors of Bristol Review of Books magazine has established itself as one of the most respected open competitions for UK and international writers alike, offering a hefty prize of £1000, £700 and £400 for the top three spots as well as £100 for 17 runners up.
The 20 stories that make the shortlist will also be published in the BSSP Anthology, which is sold in bookshops around the country and has propelled many writers careers to the next stage thanks to its widespread audience and acclaim.
is needed now More than ever
The 2016 judging panel will be chaired by celebrated writer and short story champion Tania Hershman, who will be joined by acclaimed writer Niven Govinden, owner of the award-winning Big Green Bookshop Simon Key, and Juliet Pickering, literary agent at Blake Friedmann.
The winner of last year’s prize, Canadian writer Brent van Staalduinen, said: “It provides an opportunity to present a more accomplished face to the world – adding “Winner of The Bristol Short Story Prize” to websites, Twitter, Facebook, and every biography I send out with journal, publisher, and contest submissions. This helps a writer get noticed, which is becoming more and more difficult to do in the mad stampede of our ultra-connected world.”
Short story entries must be no more than 4,000 words and there is an £8 entry fee per story. For more information on how to enter, visit www.bristolprize.co.uk.
