Bristol Women’s Literature Festival has been cancelled
Bristol Women’s Literature Festival have announced the cancellation of their 2020 weekend due to take place at the end of March.
The statement reads:
“We are sorry to announce that due to the coronavirus outbreak we have cancelled 2020’s Bristol Women’s Literature Festival.
is needed now More than ever
“The organisers feel that continuing with the festival could put speakers, audience members and the team at risk of contracting the virus. With many of our audience and some speakers in an at-risk group, as well as having family members who might be vulnerable, we believe this is the responsible course of action. In this, we have followed the example of similar sized events such as Aye Writes and Stokey Lit Fest.”
““It was a really hard decision,” explains Sian Norris, who set up the festival in 2013. “But the situation is moving so quickly and we have to put the health and safety of our team, audience and speakers first. We are so sad that we won’t be celebrating the amazing work of our writers and thinkers over the weekend programme but we would urge you to seek out their work.
““I want to pay a huge tribute to all the speakers who have supported the festival with their enthusiasm, dedication, and generosity,” Sian finished. “And a special thank you to the whole team who have been incredible from day one. I am so lucky to have the chance to work with so many brilliant women and I’m sorry we won’t be able to go ahead.””
Ticket holders can get refunds from the festival venues. Refunds for the launch party are available from Spike Island. Refunds for the weekend programme are available from Watershed.
Bristol Women’s Literature Festival are inviting ticket holders to donate the value of their refunded tickets to the festival’s partner charity, Womankind Bristol.
