Feminist Book Club launched in Bristol
Set up by Rebecca James during the pandemic, initially as a small, online meetup for like-minded book lovers, South London Feminist Book Club didn’t take long to take root.
Before long, a North London group was established, along with multiple sold-out live events and, in 2023, a weekend book festival – bringing together authors, publishers, spoken-word artists, poets, playwrights and readers together in a shared love of feminist literature.
Now, along with Sheffield, it’s Bristol’s turn. Hosted by Eloise Wheeler, the new group was founded in January 2024 with the same core principles in mind, aiming to foster plenty of connections and friendships along the way.

“Bristol is such a vibrant city with so many opportunities and different people, it can sometimes be hard to find the right space for you,” says Wheeler.
“I wanted to create something that nurtures the city in a positive way and I hope this book club can serve as a safe space for like-minded feminists to connect and explore their beliefs and opinions in an inclusive environment.
“It’s not easy making friends as an adult and it would be a great achievement if our members can call each other friends by the end of a meet up.”
