Gloucester Road Books hosts evening with acclaimed cookbook author and food charity campaigner Melissa Hemsley
Gloucester Road Books will be joining with their neighbours Boston Tea Party for their latest food-themed literary event: an evening with acclaimed chef, bestselling cookbook author and food charity campaigner, Melissa Hemsley.
In conversation with Pauline Cox, Hemsley will be presenting her new book, Real Healthy, which is billed as “a life-friendly cookbook for time-poor people who want healthy food that’s quick, convenient and tasty, too”.
In it, Hemsley takes on the issue of ultra-processed foods (UPFs), which despite having been linked to high blood pressure, heart disease and other illnesses, make up more than half the calorific intake for the average adult in the UK.

Melissa Hemsley, author of Real Healthy
The recipes in Real Healthy are designed with simplicity, practicality and satisfaction in mind, and encompass everything from on-the-go breakfasts and one-pot dinners to snacks, sandwiches and smoothies.
Hemsley also guides readers on how to identify UPFs which can often be hidden in affordable, familiar and heavily marketed everyday foods.
As well as being an author and MasterChef winner, Dr Saliha Mahmood Ahmed is an NHS Gastroenterology doctor, for whom Hemsley’s approach makes a lot of sense. “(It’s) a delightful guide to shifting the focus onto eating more plants, cooking more intuitively and fostering a more sustainable and wholesome approach to mealtimes,” she explains.
Melissa Hemsley discusses her latest book, Real Healthy at Boston Tea Party (Gloucester Road branch) on July 15 at 7pm. Tickets for this and other literary events are available at www.gloucesterroadbooks.com.
