New independent bookshop for Bristol
A new independent bookshop will be opening in Bristol next month.
Max Minerva’s will occupy the site of the former Durdham Down bookshop in Henleaze, which closed in 2016. The new bookshop aims to offer a wide range of fiction and non-fiction, children’s and young adult titles; plus vinyl, stationery, and gifts. The family-run shop is also promising a series of author events and children’s creative classes.
Co-owner, Jessica Paul, says: “Every community deserves a bookshop, and living in the neighbourhood we jumped at the opportunity to resurrect what had been a much-loved store.”
is needed now More than ever
Jessica will run Max Minerva’s with the help of her husband, Sam Taylor, and five-year-old daughter Aria.
Jessica’s love of books started at a young age, inspired in part by her uncle’s career in bookselling. She founded a small online bookstore in Australia before helping to develop collections for the Singapore National Library.
Sam has worked as a songwriter, radio producer and advertising manager. Calling on his experience as co-founder of Bristol Story Lab, which ran in Easton in 2013, the store will launch children’s creative classes in October.
“Story writing inspires childrens’ confidence and helps them unleash their imaginations. Give them the chance to speak, and children have incredible stories to tell”, says Sam.
Max Minerva’s will open on Saturday September 15. For more information, visit maxminervas.co.uk/ and twitter.com/maxminervas.
