New children’s literature festival comes to Bristol
The Inaugural Bristol’s Festival of Children’s Literature, featuring many well-known writers, poets and illustrators, comes to town this weekend.
The one-day event, organised by Horfield CEVC Primary School, will take place on Saturday July 14 from 9.30am to 6pm.
Last year Horfield Primary was named as the 2016-17 UKLA Literacy School of the Year. The award is given to a school where literacy thrives, and Horfield was one of only four UK schools to be shortlisted for this accolade.

Authors and illustrators taking part in the festival include: Amy Wilson, Bristol-based author of A Girl Called Owl, nominated for the CILIP Carnegie Medal; award-winning author Andy Seed, who will be launching his new book, RSPB Wild Facts About Nature; celebrated poet, comedian and musician, John Hegley; and winner of the Nestle Smarties Book Prize for Children’s Literature, SF Said.
Jenny Taylor, head teacher at Horfield Primary, said: “Literacy is very much at the heart of the school’s curriculum. Engaging texts ignite children’s imaginations, promote a love of books and unlock the creative potential of all the children.
“The Festival of Children’s Literature is about the love of reading and books. We look forward to welcoming everyone.”
Festival goers attending the author and illustrator workshops will also have the opportunity to take part in free and pay-on-the-day sessions including a drama workshop with actor and magician, Peter Clifford, and Spanish, singing, art and craft, and food workshops.
