Storytale Festival announces writer’s day for aspiring authors
Now in the planning stage for its sixth chapter, Storytale Festival is an annual event celebrating stories through a varied programme of creative, engaging and fun events led by authors and illustrators.
Taking place during the October half term, the Arts Council England-funded event has carved out a well-earned place as Bristol’s leading children’s book festival.
“Bristol is full of exceptionally talented creatives,” organisers say, “and so Storytale aims to link children directly with the storytellers, to inspire them to embrace the power of books and stories for themselves through creative, inspiring and interactive events within their community.”
is needed now More than ever
As preparations for this year’s festival take shape, Storytale have announced an inaugural Writer’s Day, aimed at aspiring and emerging writers of middle grade fiction (9-12 years).
Hosting a variety of guest speakers, the event will also feature writing workshops and a valuable chance to connect with the local children’s fiction community.
Themes to be discussed range from character development to finding an authentic voice for a young audience, and workshops will be led by esteemed local authors Sophie Kirtley (The Wild Way Home, Bloomsbury), Rachel Delahaye (Mort the Meek, Little Tiger), J.M. Joseph (Fire Boy, Hachette), and Emma Read (The Housetrap, Chicken House).
Storytale Futures: Writer’s Day – Writing Middle Grade Fiction is at Arnos Vale on June 29 at 9.30am-5pm. For more information and to book tickets, visit www.tickettailor.com.
