UK’s largest crime fiction convention returns to Bristol

By Elisha Abay  Tuesday Apr 9, 2024

For die-hard fanatics or simply for those that love to immerse themselves in the world of crime fiction novels, Bristol’s annual crime fiction convention will take place in May, 16 years after its first convention in 2008.

CrimeFest has grown to become of the biggest crime fiction events in Europe, and one of the most popular dates in the international crime fiction calendar.

From May 9-12, expect to see panels on a range of topics – from pace and tension to landscape and setting, featured authors, guest interviews and the CrimeFest awards taking place during a gala dinner event.

Drawing readers, editors and top crime novelists across the world, the event aims to create an inclusive atmosphere, and a like-minded community of crime fiction lovers.

Opening the convention is Murdle author G.T. Karber – creator of the international crime puzzle series. His third instalment, Murdle: Even More Killer Puzzles is set to be published on May 9 by Souvenir Press.

His new book features the deadly secrets of a mysterious manor, the riddles of a suspiciously orderly science institute and the eerie corridors of a tech billionaire’s island retreat.

The four day event will be held at the Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel, typically attracting up to 150 authors from across the globe appearing in over 50 panels.

Also on the lineup this year is acclaimed American author Laura Lippman, best known for her novels set in Baltimore featuring a reporter turned investigator.

Local author Jean Goodhind will be attending this year. Born and raised in Bristol, Jean now lives in Bath and is best known for her Honey Driver series that has gained the attention of millions of readers worldwide.

Tickets are now on sale for the full CrimeFest pass, giving attendees access to the entire event as well as limited day passes for the Friday and Saturday of the convention.

CrimeFest will take place from May 9-12. Visit www.crimefest.com for more information and to purchase tickets.
