Learn circus at home with Circomedia

By Martin Booth  Thursday Apr 2, 2020

Hundreds of children from across Bristol normally take part in circus classes each week and in the school holidays, organised by the team at Circomedia.

With those currently postponed during the coronavirus outbreak, the team have taken the lessons online allowing anyone in the world to learn some new circus skills.

Youth Circus: Home Edition is already bringing skills, games, tricks, stretches and exercises – all things that children and adults alike can do without having to leave the house.

The Circomedia teachers are also showing people how to make equipment from everyday items as part of their arts and crafts activities.

New videos released throughout the week cover lots of different skills and levels, so that everyone from Circomedia’s tiniest acrobat to their most advanced aerialist will have something to do.

Circomedia classes manager Jono Ayres told Bristol24/7: “I know first hand how difficult this time can be with having a child or two locked in the house, and our aim and hope is just to bring some small sense of normality back to our students’ lives.”

Jono added: “Our aim through all of this, is to not just support our students and our staff, but also the entire community that we serve.

“We have made these videos accessible to anyone in the hope that we can reach a wider audience, especially here in Bristol. We want to let the public know that we are still here and want to help to get our children through this crisis.”

There are plans to deliver the annual Youth Circus showcase, with Circomedia’s Academy which delivers a very practical university course has also quickly shifted gear to fully operate and teach online so students can continue their studies.
