Slapstick Presents: More Laughter in Lockdown

By Steve Wright  Thursday Apr 16, 2020

After a hugely successful start last Thursday (April 9), Bristol’s Slapstick Festival of silent, visual and classic screen comedy continues on its journey to help lift the nation’s spirits by sharing a decade’s worth of previously unreleased footage.

Under the Laughter in Lockdown banner, the festival is releasing a decade’s worth of previously unseen footage onto its YouTube channel. It began in style last on April 9 by uploading a host of brilliant material from its past decade, including what is believed to be the last on-stage appearance by the legendary comedy writer and radio, film, TV and stage performer Eric Sykes CBE.

The next clip to be released, on Friday April 17 from 10am, is the Feast of Fun fundraiser hosted at St George’s in September 2016 by Tim Vine and featuring stand-up sets by John Cleese, Rory Bremner and Barry Cryer, plus musical contributions by Barry, Ronnie Golden and Neil Innes, and an introduction by Graeme Garden.

The Feast of Fun archive footage will go live on Slapstick’s YouTube channel from Friday at 10am, with links to it from Slapstick’s website and from the festival’s Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Other shows lined up for sharing include Harry Hill talking about his favourite comedy moments; highlights from when Sir Ken Dodd and French & Saunders received their Aardman/Slapstick Comedy Legend awards; and, most poignantly following the death of Eddie Large (Hugh McGinnis), the first stage reunion in decades of Little & Large.
