Creative lockdown: Dan Hollington

By Lowie Trevena  Thursday Apr 16, 2020

Dan Hollington is part of the ongoing Bristol24/7 Creative Lockdown series, showcasing how people in Bristol have been getting arty under lockdown.

A father from Totterdown has been creating funny lessons on YouTube.

Dan Hollington, a tiler who runs his own business, Bristol Bespoke Tiling, has been making videos for different subjects, all with a humorous tone.

The 40-year-old was an early years teacher prior to changing trade and used his background in teaching and “a life time experience of being a village idiot” to make the ‘educational’ videos.

“Prior to the closure of schools and then with the subsequent closure I was seeing quite a few posts on social media and WhatsApp groups of people’s worries and concerns of the prospect of home schooling,” says Dan.

“These worries, alongside the whole host of others worries this pandemic present are of course totally relevant,” Dan adds. “It is very easy though to fan the flames of these concerns with more worry and speculation so I thought what could I do to help make things a little better?

“On the surface it may look as though my target audience is for children, which in a way they are as kids enjoy seeing a ‘sensible’ adult being the buffoon but they should also be enjoyable for big people too.”

Dan will be making more videos during the lockdown, saying: “I have plenty of time on my hands and a ton of topics to cover.”
