‘Señor Self Destruct’ Ignacio Lopez hits Bristol

By Sarski Anderson  Monday Jan 20, 2025

Self-described as “Spain’s Best ExportT”, Spanish/Welsh comedian Ignacio Lopez has been experiencing something of a meteoric rise in recent years, racking up numerous TV and radio appearances including Have I Got News For You (BBC One), Pointless Celebrities (BBC One), Live at the Apollo (BBC Two), Comedy Central Live (Comedy Central) and The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice (Channel 4).

Repeated sell-out performances prompted extra dates added to his 2023 tour of Nine Ig Fails, which also enjoyed runs at Edinburgh and Brighton Fringe, and Leicester and Neath Comedy Festivals.

Lopez is now on the road again, visiting 40 locations with his latest show, Señor Self Destruct – coming to The Hen & Chicken Studio on February 2.

His subject? Self-destruction and rebirth. Aiming his incisive wit directly at his own thoughts, vices, and failures, Lopez aims to find out whether there are routes to rebuild a better version of himself.

“I set out to write a show about self-improvement because I’ve truly destroyed my body and mind performing standup comedy,” he admits.

“It’s time I sorted myself out, but not before I spend another five months travelling up and down the UK on public transport, eating terrible food and not getting any sleep.

“The world is on fire and I can’t fix that but I will tell you my best jokes about British tourists, Spanish horror stories and the origins of music festivals. Also I try to do a cockney accent at one point, which is worth the price of admission alone.”
