By Sarski Anderson  Thursday Sep 22, 2022

To celebrate their return to weekly standup nights in south Bristol, Chops Comedy have announced not one, but two shows on Sunday October 2, from Nish Kumar.

These specials will be a rare chance to see the internationally acclaimed comic refining his hugely successful tour show Your Power, Your Control in the cosy surroundings of Friendly Records Bar, in the heart of Bedminster’s North Street – a venue he cites as one of his favourite places to perform.

Kumar has been touring the show since February 2022. Next month, to conclude the UK dates, he will be filming two performances of the at London’s Arts Theatre on October 17, and then moves on to Australia for dates including Sydney Opera House and Athenaeum Theatre Two, Melbourne.

The regular Chops Comedy night is back at Friendly Records every Tuesday, where it has built up a following for the promise of new material from a secret headliner (often announced after tickets sell out), joined on the bill by some exciting up-and-coming local names.

Previous headliners include Ed Gamble, Mike Wozniak, Ahir Shah, Olga Koch, Sara Baron, Fin Taylor, Luisa Omielan and Jayde Adams.

For resident host David Hoare, it’s a particular thrill to be able to bring big names, and big laughs, to a warm and intimate space. “Every Tuesday is an absolute blast,” he enthuses.

“I’m always blown away by the level of comedic talent in Bristol and it’s so great to be able to showcase it at Chops Comedy.”
