Stephen Merchant to present Crystal Maze

By Bristol24/7  Friday Sep 2, 2016

Hanham-born comedian and possibly Bristol’s biggest export of the last 10 years or so Stephen Merchant has been snapped up to present a one-off celebrity revival of The Crystal Maze.

The charity gig will be part of Channel 4’s Stand Up To Cancer fundraising campaign in October. The celebrity guests are yet to be revealed.

Merchant, 41, best known for writing and acting in The Office and Extras, said: “As a huge fan of the original series, I’m honoured to support Stand Up To Cancer by hosting this one-off edition of The Crystal Maze.

“Richard O’Brien and Ed Tudor-Pole leave big shoes to fill, but I have size 14 feet, so I’ll do my best.”

The original Crystal Maze stopped running in 1995, when Merchant was 20 years old. The format was recently copied for an immersive theatre experience after money was raised through a crowdfunded project.
