Learn to dance the blues in a day
Usually meeting on alternate Monday nights at The Boardroom, Blue Mondays are an inclusive, mixed ability class teaching blues dance techniques, followed by a social dance.
“Blues is a great way to get into partners dancing,” they say, citing “a gentle learning curve and de-gendered teaching”, and welcoming people whether or not they have a partner.
“With a focus on connection and improvisation over very complex sequences of steps, we guarantee that by the end of your first session you’ll be grooving to some great tunes on the social floor!”
is needed now More than ever
On August 17, the group will be hosting a special all-day workshop and evening social at The Elmgrove Centre.
Learn to dance in a day! is structured to suit complete beginners, as well as improvers and more experienced dancers.
In the evening, an extended social dance will be accompanied by local acoustic blues and folk musician Kosta Burgess, added to which some DJs will be spinning some blues classics.
Burgess is returning to Blue Mondays following a hugely popular first encounter with the group earlier in the year.
“Bring your best dance shoes, your fishtails and your four corners, your jukin’ hips and ballroomin’ feet – we can’t wait to dance the night away with you,” organisers say.
Learn to dance in a day! is at The Elmgrove Centre on August 17 from 2-6pm. Workshop tickets are available at www.headfirstbristol.co.uk.
Tickets for the evening social dance (8-11pm) are also available via Headfirst.
