Dance / Southmead Hospital

Strictly Southmead’s sensational show

By Martin Booth  Monday Jun 25, 2018

For a magical couple of hours on Saturday afternoon, one corner of the Brunel Building at Southmead Hospital was transformed into a dancefloor as ten couples strutted their stuff for Southmead Hospital Charity as part of Strictly Southmead.

All of the dancers work at the hospital, from doctors to nurses, cooks to managers.

The dancers were supported by an audience of hundreds of people, with hospital staff still on duty straining to watch from the floors of the hospital looking down on the dancefloor.

More than £7,000 has now been raised by all of the competitors, who spent three months perfecting their routines for the big day.

Strictly Southmead organiser and dance teacher Emily Holloway, who by day works in the cmmunications team at the hospital, said that the event “was one of the most enjoyable events of my life”.

Emily said: “All the couples put in so much time and effort to learn their routines and fundraise for Southmead Hospital Charity; I couldn’t be more proud of them, and also of my family and friends who supported the whole process.

“I’m also so glad we could provide so much enjoyment to all the patients and visitors who came to watch.”
