Alexandra Burke to headline Bristol Pride

By James Higgins  Tuesday May 8, 2018

Alexandra Burke is to perform at Bristol Pride festival on Saturday, July 14.

Burke first rose to fame in 2008 after she was crowned the winner of the fifth series of The X Factor. Since then, she has established herself as one of the show’s most successful former contestants with three number-one singles and a further three top-10 hits to her name.

Last year, she was a runner-up on the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing. Partnered with Gorka Márquez, Burke achieved some of the highest scores of the season and was particularly noted for her jive in week four to the song ‘Proud Mary’.

Burke has also appeared on stage in the lead role of Rachel Marron in the West End musical The Bodyguard. After releasing her third studio album The Truth Is Out in March this year, Burke has plenty of hits to keep Pride festival-goers entertained.

The main stage will also welcome ’90s Britpop band, Republica

The main stage, sponsored by Unite Students, will also see performances from electro-duo Avec Sans and ’90s Britpop band, Republica.

The Millennium Square will host two other stages offering the very best of cabaret, dance and drag alongside the community and family areas. Last year’s festival attracted around 35,000 people to the city and with an expanded itinerary for 2018, the festival will offer two-weeks’ worth of entertainment and celebration.

Returning favourites include the Pride Dog Show, the highly-acclaimed queer film festival Queervision, and a comedy night. After the Pride festival wraps-up on the Harbourside, the flagship afterparty at the O2 Academy will welcome queer-club nights Don’t Tell Your Mother, KIKI and Savage Disco.
