Five acts not to miss at Valley Fest 2019
Valley Fest returns to the beautiful landscapes of Chew Magna for another magical year. Among the feasting tables, yoga classes and workshops by the lakeside, Valley Fest 2019 is serving up hot musical dishes from some of the biggest, bravest and freshest faces in the industry.
From Bristol home birds to mystical collectives from the far-flung reaches of outer space, these are the acts you should not be missing this weekend.

Basement Jaxx by Jean-Luc Brouard
Basement Jaxx (DJ set) – Friday, Lake Stage
is needed now More than ever
Basement Jaxx were the perfect party starters in the early 2000s, and that’s no different nineteen years later. Bringing their infectious brand of progressive house to the Lake Stage on Friday night, this is the headliner for those of you looking to flex your skanking muscles. Where’s your head at? Find out on Friday.
The Desert – Saturday, Second Stage
Day two is usually a bit of a struggle – you’re a bit weary from the night before, in search of sustenance and enough water to stop you from toppling back into your sleeping bag for the day. Thankfully, Bristol’s own synth-pop outfit, fronted by Gina Leonard, are the warm, electronic embrace you never knew you needed. Haunting vocals, bass you can sway to and poetic lyricism to boot.
The Nextmen – Saturday, The Yard
You’ll be too busy dancing to this double bearded duo before you have time to realise the sun’s coming up. Spinning tunes perfect for a cataclysmic festival clash or styled-out dub evening, The Nextmen are veterans of the live scene. After recent collaborative albums, expect the unexpected, from dub and fresh reggae to funk, soul and smatterings of dancehall.

Tom Odell – Sunday, Lake Stage
BRITs Critic’s Choice Award winner and Ivor Novello-winning songwriter Tom Odell brings his smooth showman’s voice to the lakeside on Sunday. He broke into the UK charts with Another Love and has stayed a family favourite ever since. His languorous balladry will perfectly complement the setting sun over the west country.
Henge – Sunday, Second Stage
Landing on earth from the farthest, darkest and most obscure reaches of outer space are Henge – the band of intergalactic ravers here to preach messages of love, time travel, politics and war. Frontman Zpor, donned in a plasma ball headdress and carrying a staff cobbled together with ornaments from his otherworldly travels, is coming to Chew Magna to save your withering Sunday soul. Don’t miss this spectacle.
