Shindig opens its gates for tenth and final time
A local festival that has become known for its offering of revelry and relaxation in equal measures is throwing open its gates for one last fling tomorrow.
Shindig has grown over the last decade from a field party for friends of the Bath-based Ghetto Funk label, to a staple of the boutique festival calendar recommended by the BBC, the Guardian and Glastonbury Festival organiser Emily Eavis for its big lineup, varied activities and friendly atmosphere.
The festival is set to go out with a bang but it’s sad news for an industry that has lost a huge total of 38 independent festivals across the UK this year. A trend of delayed ticket buying and a lack of government support has made it increasingly difficult for independent events to operate.
is needed now More than ever

Shindig are determined to enjoy their last dance, putting together a special 10th anniversary lineup that includes the Brand New Heavies, Dub Pistols, Mad Professor, Smoove and Turrell, Congo Natty, garage stars Kurupt FM and full power folk collective the Old Time Sailors.
Bristol additions include Jody Wisternoff of Way Out West, Bass Choir bringing club-based vocal euphoria and Gardna’s dubwise lyrical stylings.

Festival legends Chai Wallah are joining the set up this year to bring an extra dose of sparkle and some heady cocktails to the mix. And there’s comedy, art installations, a kids kingdom, King of Ping, Father Funk’s Church of Love and plenty of craft, circus and cabaret.
Co-Directors Mojo Feel and Simon Clarke said, “As the countdown ticks closer to zero, our excitement is soaring. We’re throwing everything we have at it and going to make this the best weekend we have ever created. We owe that to everyone.”
Last minute weekend and Sunday tickets are still available at shindigfestival.co.uk
