The increasingly tired looking ‘Marvel Cinematic Universe’ proved that it’s not completely dead yet as nerds flocked to cinemas to watch the achingly self-referential Deadpool & Wolverine. That £17m haul means it has comfortably eclipsed Inside Out 2 to become the biggest opener of 2024. Still, the Pixar sequel is now up to £50m, securing 49th place in the UK all-time chart. It remains to be seen whether the Marvel machine can catch up with that. Despicable Me 4 continues to hold up well, despite being relegated to second place, and could yet prove to be the biggest hit of the franchise. Twisters remains the summer action choice for grown-ups and should soon reach £10m, while social media viral success Longlegs continues to hold a place in the top five.
