Even an animated Transformers flick can relieve kids of vast quantities of pocket money, as Transformers One proved when it saw off Joker: Folie à Deux from the top of the chart after just one week. The Joker sequel now appears to be in freefall, with a 75% drop in takings in its second week on release. Low budget slasher threequel Terrifier 3, by contrast, did very well by the standards of its predecessors. But in the battle for the pre-Halloween cinemagoing pound, the film version of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot is something of a loser. This took just £360,000 over its opening weekend, putting it behind Indian crime drama Vettaiyan. And it’s farewell to Despicable Me 4, which is still expected to wind up as the most successful film in the Despicable franchise.
