The latest Blumhouse horror Speak No Evil failed to depose Beetlejuice Beetlejuice from the top of the chart at the weekend. Tim Burton’s sequel has now taken more than £14m at the UK box office in just two weeks. In the battle of the thesps, Kate Winslet was the clear winner as her biopic Lee grabbed third place, leaving Sir Ian McKellen at number seven with The Critic. The re-release of the 2022 National Theatre filmed play Prima Facie, starring Jodie Comer, proved a big hit, adding a further half-a-million quid to its tally. And in its eighth week on release, Deadpool & Wolverine is the second-highest-grossing UK release of 2024 (behind Inside Out 2) and now ranks as the fourth-highest-grossing film in what we’re expected to call the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There’ll be even more superhero action next week with the release of yet another Spider-man flick. Do try to contain your joy.
