Bristol Palestine Film Festival: The Reports on Sarah and Saleem + Q&A
An affair between a Palestinian man and an Israeli woman takes on a political dimension
Launched by Ken Loach back in 2011, the Bristol Palestine Film Festival has become an established and welcome fixture in the local film festival calendar. The eighth edition runs from December 4-9 and boasts arguably the most eclectic programme to date, taking in documentaries about surfing and football in the Gaza strip, much-acclaimed dramas (Wajib, In Between) and a number of features that haven’t previously been shown in the city. These include the Palestinian satire Tel Aviv on Fire, Oscar nominated courtroom drama The Insult and fascinating documentary What Walaa Wants, which follows a rebellious young woman from the West Bank who yearns to defy expectations by becoming a cop.
Oscar-nominated and BAFTA-winning British playwright David Hare will also be present for a Q&A after a screening of the innovative Wall, which charts his journey to explore the impact of the 700 km wall that separates Israel and Palestine.
Films are showing at the Watershed, Cube, Curzon Cinema in Clevedon, The Windmill Pub, and the Bristol Palestine Museum & Cultural Centre (which will also be serving a variety of Palestinian grub). We’ve categorised all the screenings rather crudely below. Follow the links for screening times, trailers and further information.
