Curzon cinema’s autumn programme includes immersive and themed events

By Robin Askew  Monday Sep 16, 2024

Clevedon’s historic Curzon cinema has revealed a packed autumn/winter programme of imaginative curated events, many of them themed.

On Friday 9 November, there’s an immersive screening of the 4K version of The Lost Boys in the company of DJ Cheeba.

Highlights of the Sound and Vision strand celebrating the pairing of music and film include O Brother, Where Art Thou?, with live music from bluegrass act The Hogranch (Saturday 21 September); The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, preceded by two hours of raucous Drag Queen Bingo (Friday 11 October); and FW Murnau’s silent classic Nosferatu, soundtracked by Minima (Friday 22 November).

The Colour and Light strand of film events exploring the visual arts includes a street art event featuring Jean-Michel Basquiat and Art on the Streets, narrated by Michael Rosen, followed by a Q&A (Friday 27 September). Paper Cinema Live (Sunday 27 October) uses vivid pen and ink drawings, puppetry, and a mix of acoustic and electronic sounds to present short tales of other worlds (ghosts, dreams and the supernatural) in a show that’s suitable for age eight upwards.

The Connections strand focusing on community comprises the award-winning 1995 feature La Haine with a Q&A and set by DJ Ngaio (Thursday 17 Oct), plus a Bristol Palestine Film Festival pre-launch event entitled Art for the Struggle, Struggle for the Art (Saturday 23 November) – a selection of short films from the revolutionary period of Palestinian cinema that began in 1968, followed by a discussion with Professor Anandi Ramamurthy.
