Disney animated classics return to cinemas to celebrate the studio’s 100th anniversary

By Robin Askew  Monday Aug 7, 2023

Each week from now until the autumn, Disney is reissuing one of its classic animations in anticipation of the studio’s 100th anniversary on October 16. Locally, participating cinemas include the Showcase, Vue and Cineworld sites, plus the Orpheus in Henleaze. Most are charging £5 or less for admission.

Right now, you can see Disney’s very first animation, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, from 1937. Here’s the line-up for the rest of the season:

August 18: Bambi (1942)

August 25: Cinderella (1950)

September 1: Peter Pan (1953)

September 8: 101 Dalmatians (1961)

September 15: The Jungle Book (1967)

September 22: Beauty and the Beast (1991)

September 29: Toy Story (1995)

October 6: The Princess and the Frog (2009)

October 13: Frozen (2013)

While one could quibble about some of the obvious omissions (Lady and the Tramp, The Aristocats), the inclusion of Pixar’s Toy Story offers some overlap with the Watershed’s summer Pixar Mix season of the studio’s classics:

August 8-13: The Incredibles

August 15-20: Ratatouille

August 22-27: Up

August 29-September 3: Brave

Tickets for all these screenings are just £5. Go here for further information.
