Harry Enfield joins star-studded Slapstick 2025 line-up

By Robin Askew  Friday Nov 15, 2024

The bad news for Slapstick Festival enthusiasts is that Michael Palin has once again had to pull out because of his filming commitments. This means that the previously announced GBH event at the Bristol Old Vic next February will not now be going ahead.

But the festival has been quick to find an A-list replacement in the form of Harry Enfield, who’ll be sharing his Top Comedy Moments with Robin Ince and talking about their influence on his own many memorable characters.

“This will be a very special, one-of-a-kind event,” says Slapstick director Chris Daniels. “Harry Enfield hardly ever makes live stage appearances and it is rarer still to hear him sharing insights into the many characters he’s woven into the nation’s consciousness, among them his astute satire of Thatcherite economics, Loadsamoney; the well-meaning but hopeless Tim Nice-But-Dim; the hormonal teenage duo Kevin and Perry (with Kathy Burke); and, with The Fast Show’s Paul Whitehouse, radio DJs Smashie and Nicey.”

No mention of Stavros there, presumably so as not to trigger easily offended Gen Z.

Harry Enfield’s Top Comedy Moments takes place at the Bristol Old Vic on Sunday 16 February. Tickets are on sale now via the Bristol Old Vic box office.
