New Channel 4 drama filmed in Bristol

By Jack Fifield  Wednesday Jun 17, 2020

A new three-part series filmed in Bristol explores the most investigated unsolved murder in the history of the Metropolitan Police.

Showing on Mondays during June 2020, Murder in the Carpark focuses on the murder of private investigator Daniel Morgan, who was killed with an axe in the car park of a south London pub on March 10, 1987.

Although the murder took place in the capital, filming took place exclusively in Bristol and North Somerset.

Herbert Street, East Street and Catherine Mead Street stood in for London roads, while Arnos Manor Hotel in Arno’s Vale took the place of the Ritz.

Flax Bourton Mortuary, Bottle Yard Studio and residential homes also appear.

The factual drama was filmed over just 11 days and covers three decades of events surrounding the £30m murder investigation that produced no witnesses and was embroiled with accusations of police corruption and phone hacking.

“Shooting factual drama presents a number of challenges when trying to balance budget limitations, whilst staying faithful to the original story,” says producer Kate Cook.

“Murder in the Carpark had 11 days to shoot sequences spanning three decades – Bristol offered us all the locations we needed as well as a fantastic crew who really got behind the project.”

The series airs on Mondays throughout June 2020 at 9 PM, all episodes can be viewed on All4 now.
