No Reason short film festival returns for 2024

By Robin Askew  Monday Oct 21, 2024

Now in its seventh year, the No Reason short film festival comes to the Malcolm X community centre on December 6.

“Our goal is to connect art and culture with the community, providing a platform for aspiring filmmakers and no filmmakers with limited resources,” festival director Jara Rodriguez tells us. “In addition to the film screenings, the event features performances, live music, a photocall and food. It’s an evening of celebration, where filmmakers and performers sit alongside the audience.”

Participation is open to all and the festival has issued a call for entries. Submissions must be a maximum of five minutes in length (including credits) and made in 2024. Only one film per director will be admitted. The deadline for submissions is December 1.

Entries will be judged in five categories by film industry experts and there is also an audience award. There are no monetary prizes, but winners each receive a handmade statue. Entry to the festival costs £10. Go here for more information and submission details.
