‘Not as good as Jurassic Park’

By Martin Booth  Friday May 26, 2023

None of the new films screened at Watershed are ever as good as Jurassic Park.

That’s according to one cinephile whose decade-long love for Steven Spielberg’s dinosaurs can now be shared once again thanks to the return of the cinema’s comments board.

Not an online comments board: this is real life, with thoughts on the latest releases written on cards on display in the first floor lobby.

The removal of the original comments board halfway up the stairs was due to the pandemic, with a colourful sign welcoming visitors in a variety of languages now in its place.

Its return in a new location has been welcomed by cinemagoers as well as Watershed staff.

On their Twitter account, Watershed have even shared a few of their favourite comments from over the years, including:

“Watershed – what are you doing showing this appalling drivel? Did you even watch it? DON’T SHOW IT AGAIN?”
(On Chesil Beach)

“It’s as excruciatingly inert and as infuriatingly boring as it sounds. With the future of cinema precariously hanging in the balance, it’s baffling to wonder why so many people, from the filmmakers right through to the distributors, would conspire to make such an ineffectual, forgettable and hollow statement. Please don’t waste your life on this. You could be at home picking your belly button instead.”

“We are so happy that our much loved and much used comments board has made its triumphant return to the building this week,” Watershed head of communications Louise Gardner told Bristol24/7.

“As ever our amazing audiences have not let us down, embracing the opportunity immediately to share their thoughts, opinions and drawings.

“It’s a joy to browse through and we’ve also been loving the trip down memory lane with the previous classic comments that we’ve been sharing on our socials.”
