Showcase Cinema De Lux shows its final film
There was no rush to begin the final ever film to be shown at Showcase Cinema De Lux on Thursday evening.
Around half a dozen members of staff stood to the side of the auditorium as two of their colleagues introduced the 10.10pm screening of Saltburn that did not start until soon before 11pm.
Friends greeted each other by name as they slowly drifted inside screen 13 – one of the two director’s lounge screens at the cinema – to mark the end of Cinema De Lux.
is needed now More than ever
“Hi ladies and gentlemen, for those of you who don’t know this is the last screening at Showcase Cinema De Lux in Bristol so thank you very much for being here,” a senior Showcase member of staff said to the audience of a few dozen cinephiles before the film.
“Me and Kevin opened this cinema 15 years ago and we are very sad to be closing it. It has been a pretty special time to be here and I hope you really enjoy the film.”
Just over two hours later, Saltburn was over and cinemagoers descended Cinema De Lux’s escalators for one last time. That’s all, folks.
