The Star Wars galaxy has come to Bristol with the making of the short film I Am Your Mother which premieres on May 4, aka Star Wars Day, on Disney+.

Aardman have joined other animation studios from across the world to make one of nine short films as part of an animated anthology series, Star Wars: Visions.

No details have been released about I Am Your Mother other than it is directed by Magdalena Osinska, who has previously directed Wallace & Gromit in an advert for DFS.

Osinska, a graduate of the UK National Film and Television School as well as the Polish Film School and Art College, is currently developing the feature film Jasia, based on her grandmother’s memories of Poland in the Second World War.

The award-winning director said that it was a “dream come true” to make I Am Your Mother.

She tweeted: “So excited to be finally sharing this news! I have directed a new short film for Aardman set in the Star Wars universe called ‘I AM YOUR MOTHER’ ? Thank you to the most incredible crew here at @aardmananimations and @lucasfilm for making this dream come true!”

Star Wars: Visions executive producer, James Waugh, said: “The reaction to the first volume of Star Wars: Visions blew us away. We were delighted that this project inspired and resonated with so many people.

“We always saw Star Wars: Visions as a framework for celebratory expressions of the franchise from some of the best creators working today.”
