Students make short film at Trump protest

By Esme Barrell  Wednesday Feb 1, 2017

Three student filmmakers from DbS Music’s Screenology Production School headed to the anti-Trump rally at College Green to see what they could create from the atmosphere at the protest. Despite grim weather conditions and  levels of mud and rain rarely seen outside Glastonbury Festival, they managed to capture the warmth of community spirit that was felt at the protest, which had a diverse turnout.

One of the makers of the video, Matt Christey, told Bristol 24/7 that he was “blown away by the energy and passion at the protest” and that he and co-directors Hayden Lewis and Elizabeth Mizon were inspired by how many Bristolians took to the streets.

“Even though this is something going on in America, it was clear from the protest that these changes are felt to involve us all,” Matt said.

We all know that there’s something special about the Bristol community and its loud political voice. A recent petition to prevent President Trump receiving a state visit when he comes to the UK was signed by 1-in-5 residents of Bristol West. It makes us proud to be part of a city that came together so enthusiastically, with the event ending in true Bristol style: reggae and dancing.
