¡Viva! Spanish and Latin American Film Festival returns after 10-year hiatus

It’s been a decade since the ¡Viva! Spanish and Latin American Film Festival last came to Bristol, but the organisers are making up for lost time with a small but perfectly formed selection of the best in new Spanish-language cinema. Programmed by HOME in Manchester, the 2019 festival’s theme is  ‘Celebrating Women in Global Cinema’. To this end, all four films highlight female creative talent in the roles of director, writer, producer or star.

The touring programme arrives at the Watershed on Tuesday 26 March with Ana de día, which is something of a timely counterpart to Jordan Peele’s Us. Andrea Jaurrieta’s debut is the story of an ordinary, conformist young girl whose life is upended when a doppelganger takes her place. The writer/director be present for a Q&A after this screening. Follow the links below for more on Ana de día and previews of the other three films in the touring festival.
