2,000 free IDLES tickets for NHS workers

By Ellie Pipe  Tuesday Jul 27, 2021

NHS workers in the Bristol region have a chance to sign up for one of 2,000 free tickets for the IDLES homecoming gig on The Downs.

The band, along with event organisers Team Love and Simple Things, say the gesture is to say thank you for the selfless commitment and hard work demonstrated by healthcare professionals throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

NHS workers in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire will receive an email this week offering them the chance to sign up for their free tickets for the one-off show on September 3.

IDLEs announced they were due to headline the one-day event in March and the full lineup is set to be revealed on Wednesday.

It will be the first outdoor headline show and one of the first live, in-person performances by the Bristol band since the start of the pandemic. Their album Ultra Mono went to number one last year and became the fastest-selling vinyl release of the year but is yet to be played to a live audience because the band’s sold-out tour was pushed back to 2022.

Team Love, Simple Things and IDLES are working in partnership with Bristol grATTITUDE to make the free tickets available, along with a number of free complimentary tickets for friends and partners of NHS workers.

Tom Paine from Team Love says: “Showing our support, appreciation and thanks to all of our local NHS staff for their selfless and unfaltering work on the frontline of the Covid-19 pandemic is incredibly important to us and IDLES. Joe Talbot has been a vocal and steadfast support of the NHS, and this support is incredibly personal to both him and the band.

“It is a small gesture on our part but we really do feel like NHS workers deserve something to say thank you! So we hope they would be interested in attending our show.  In the spirit of acting locally, this is what we can do to show our love and thanks to them, whilst the national government continues to seemingly not wish to offer any real thanks, other than a limp clap.”
