Best of Bristol 2017: Club nights
1. Hacienda Classical, Lloyds Amphitheatre
June 24
The ultimate Manchester club experience came to the harbourside this summer – and what a joy it was. Bringing a heady amount of 90s anthems delivered by a classical orchestra, it was the perfect way to kick off a few months of sunshine.

2. Coil 2, The Brunswick Club
October 28
Forward-thinking bookers Howling Owl Records and Thorny came together to put on this special night of experimental sound. It’s a testament that they have managed to sell out both events so far, taking risks on diverse artists from New York to Berlin.
3. Farmfest Presents Nightmares On Wax, Motion
March 17
Somerset’s Farmfest finally plunged into Bristol for the first time with a sell-out show at Motion. Having grown rapidly out in a field over the last decade, it was great so see them bring some of their favourite big names to town.
4. Strangest Things: Halloween Special, Thekla
31 October
Themed nights can often be a tired excuse to take the cash of punters, but there’s no denying that Thekla went the whole hog with this one. As Stranger Things mania swept the country around Halloween, they threw the perfect eighties bash. It’s the attention to detail that counts most with this one, whether that’s fairy lights or a vintage Millenium Falcon toy.
5. Thorny, Arnolfini
December 2
A late December entry into our favourite club nights of the year comes from the ever immersive Thorny. The night continued its reputation as a boundary-crushing, genre-smearing, gender-blitzing bonanza of sound and performance. Make sure you stay up to date with all of their activity going into 2018.
