Bitch, Please! daytime party time at Motion
Saturday August 13 is the date for a massive LGBT+ day party at legendary venue Motion. The result of a collaboration by promoters Amour Ami and Switching Lanes Bitch, Please! features a stellar line up headlined by house and techno DJ hero Spencer Parker and, fresh from NYC, Honey Dijon.
Promoters Liam Norris (Switching Lanes) and Lewis Winter (Amour Ami) took some time out from organising DJs, drag queens, and much more to have a chat with B247 and tell us all about their event:
Lewis explained “The idea behind the event is to bring together the community and showcase our scene which at the moment is really strong. Pretty much every genre is represented by a night so we’ve invited along local DJs from bars in Old Market to play alongside headliner acts, our nights attract a mixture of gay and straight – it doesn’t really matter who you are, as long as you came to dance.”
is needed now More than ever
The primary focus of the party will be outside where there is so much happening it’s probably best to let Liam talk us through it:
“Our main outside area in the Crane Yard will be showcasing dance music, with sets from Horseplay, Switching Lanes and Lewis’ techno night Amour Ami. We also have performances by Vogue Bristol as-well as our Pussy Posse of drag queens. We’ve invited some really special people to headline our party too we’re flying in DJ Honey Dijon from NY, a trans woman who has inspired a lot of us in the LGBT community, and joining her will be Spencer Parker, he’s a regular Berghain/Panorama Bar guest, originally from the UK gay capital Brighton who eventually moved to Berlin where he has carved himself a very comfortable place on the underground techno scene.
Lewis added ‘We’ve also teamed up with Don’t Tell Your Mother who are hosting The Kitchen of the party – Room 2! Where they’ll be playing guilty pop pleasures and R’n’B, Joining them will be Hush residents Frau, alongside residents from the Bristol Bear Bar, The Queenshilling & The Retreat.’
The party starts at 1pm and finishes at 10.30pm, and Liam and Lewis are hoping for a truly mixed and diverse crowd:
“Bristol is such a diverse and forward thinking city – in the past the scene has struggled but we don’t have to hide away in gay bars anymore – the scene has moved on and it’s promoters like Horseplay, Thorny and all our individual parties that are helping build a new path. So I think its important for promoters to be putting on events that draw everyone together! I wanna see Metro-sexuals covered in glitter, lots of girls and of course us sassy lot.” said Liam, Lewis added:
“Bristol has such a free crowd! Nights aren’t strictly for one group of people anymore – You can go to a party and be rubbing shoulders with queer creatives on one side and a straight office worker on the other – everybody is welcome! Yes Nan, even you!”
At this point Travis joined in:
“I wanna be seeing lots of drag queens! We want this to be the sassiest party that’s ever hit Bristol.”
So if you want to get sassy, get outrageous have fun and party to some seriously good DJs get to Motion on Saturday 13.
