DJ and Producer Anais Jan on D’n’B, her chart topping EP and why performing at NASS is a full circle moment
Entering her third year at dBs Institute Bristol this Autumn, Anais Jan is currently making waves on the drum and bass scene since moving to Bristol in 2019. Her interest in this particular genre of music began when she was 15; “I was 15 when my dad passed away and I kind of discovered this harder, faster music and would just skank all my energy away. And I think I think that’s where it all started,” she tells Bristol24/7.
After visiting a friend in Bristol, Anais decided to follow him here – “it was the best decision I ever made,” she tells us. “There’s nowhere else in in England, I don’t think, that is as accepting. I feel safe her, with the music I’m putting out. I don’t feel judged ever.”
The artist is currently producing and releasing music from her bedroom at home in St Werburghs and released an EP last November alongside studying, which hit number 1 on Juno. Grateful for the achievement, Anais now feels the pressure to keep the bar high; “since then I’ve been feeling the pressure a bit to make something that is going to be number one again.”
is needed now More than ever
Focusing on quality over quantity, the artist is focusing on performing live rather than pressurising herself to release new music. “I recently played for Hospitality on the Beach in Albania, that was pretty cool. Then before that I played in Prague, and then this weekend, I’m playing at NASS festival,” she tells us.
“NASS is just sick because I first went to NASS when I was 15. Oh my god. NASS is just 16 year olds going crazy for the first time and I like that as sometimes they hold the most energy in a crowd.”

Her favourite place to play in Bristol? “My first ever set was at Lakota so definitely there. But also Black Swan, when they get their big rigs in, like electrical sound systems and stuff like in on one of those rigs, at a day party, that is just second to none.”
Anais credits both dBs and her girlfriend, Izzy, for being able to learn everything properly the first time around; “She’s the reason why I’ve been doing so well with production; everything that I know is through dBs and what she’s taught me as well so it’s like I kind of cut out the years of like experimentation,” the DJ tells us.
With her third year just around the corner, a third year project which involves creating a whole new album and Dj’ing and producing alongside her studies, Anais looks to be set for big things, locally, nationally and internationally.
