Emily Magpie Album Launch Party Set Within an Indoor Forest
It’s been a long two year wait for Emily Magpie, the Bristol based musician who released her album Let’s Talk About The Weather in 2020 and was hoping to launch it at the Loco Klub that October. The dream-pop artist and producer will now be holding her album launch party this Friday at the same venue, just 18 months later.
Passionate about climate change from a young age, the album aimed to open up a conversation about the urgent issue and the launch party will be in-keeping with this theme. “We are transforming the Loco Klub into an immersive indoor forest with sustainably foraged foliage, a selection of the sapling trees that we will be planting with One Tree Per Child and projections”, Emily tells Bristol24/7. It’s an impressive feat with the musician partnering up with One Tree Per Child, Projections and Zoe Watson to pull off the event.
is needed now More than ever
Emily’s awareness of climate change began a few years ago; “I started to think a lot about our detrimental effect on the planet and it stirred up so much sadness and anxiety in me. I didn’t want to feel stuck in that place so I began to consider what I can do to help.” This led to her incredible debut album which then lead to the idea behind having an immersive indoor forest as part of her album launch party.
The event is also a family affair with Emily’s sister Meghan Spetch, who works as VFX Supervisor at Silverback Films, helping to turn the venue into something so unique. Both sisters have been collaborating on projects for years but this is the first time they will be actively working together. Megan bought a fresh perspective to the way the forest was going to be portrayed and the message they wanted to get across; “for this event we want to send a message of hope, however we are not intending to sugar coat reality either. We want the visuals to reflect this.” This is evident in the sisters’ plan on how the club will be transformed when Emily’s set begins; “the walls around us will transform into an abstract depiction of an underwater scene of a flooded forest – a dark illustration of what life could be if we don’t change in time,” Meghan tells Bristol24/7.
Each ticket sold means a tree will be planted as part of the One Tree Per Child scheme, Emily’s way of connecting the album launch party to taking direct, climate action; “Planting trees is so simple and one of the most effective ways to reduce atmospheric CO2 and limit global warming amongst many other benefits.”
What made her decide to hold the launch part at Loco Klub? “It’s such an atmospheric venue already which you can transform. I wanted a space in which I could create an immersive show that felt beyond that of a gig and this venue allowed me the freedom to do it.”

Now completely sold-out, this unique event is sure to be an incredible sight for the audience. What are the reactions Emily is hoping for on opening night? “I really just want people to have an amazing night. And if it inspires people to plant more trees or other action to help the planet that would be incredible.”
