Fans of astronomy, 360 degree visuals and Pink Floyd, take note: Dome Club is coming

By Sarski Anderson  Wednesday Jul 27, 2022

An immersive dome will be hosting a number of events for all the family over the summer, at various locations in Bristol, Bath and Glastonbury.

Fans of Pink Floyd will be able to sink into a 360 degree psychedelic visual experience to accompany the seminal albums, Dark Side of the Moon – which was launched in a planetarium in 1973 – and Wish You Were Here.

There will be a separate 25 minute Children’s Planetarium Show, during which visitors can find star patterns in the sky, visit astronauts on the Space Station, and hold a meteorite from outer space.

And an additional film screening for adults and children aged 6+, The Little Star That Could, will be followed by a guided tour of the night sky.

To maximise the impact of the dome experience, visitors are encouraged to bring pillows or yoga mats to sit or lie on.

Mario Di Maggio is the director of Dome Club, as well as its education service Immersive Theatres. As an astronomy teacher, he is ideally placed to inform and enthuse nascent stargazers about the night sky in August, when Saturn, Jupiter and Mars will all be visible to the naked eye.

“What’s really powerful about domes is how people find a sense of community due to the shared multi-sensory experience,” he reflects.

“Parents and children enjoy inspirational learning experiences, while music lovers experience their favourite artists as never before.

“Being in the dome is like stepping into another dimension of perception, or even returning to the peace of the cosmic womb.”

Dome Club experiences are coming to Arnos Vale on August 4 and 13; St Werburghs Community Centre on August 7 and 9; Weston Hub, Bath on July 28 and September 1; and The Assembly Rooms, Glastonbury, on August 20 and 26.
