Idles and Self Esteem pay tribute to Big Jeff at Glastonbury

By Martin Booth  Saturday Jun 25, 2022

He may still be in a hospital bed in Swansea, but Big Jeff is most definitely in the thoughts of festivalgoers in a field in Somerset.

Both Bristol’s own Idles and pop star Self Esteem paid tribute to our city’s best well-known gig goer during their performances on The Other Stage and the John Peel Stage.

Jeff remains in hospital with serious burns following an accidental fire at his flat in Totterdown.

“I just wanna dedicate this next song to our brother and our friend, Big Jeff,” said Idles lead singer Joe Talbot ahead of his band’s performance of A Hymn on The Other Stage.

“He’s everything that we wish we represent, he’s everything that is music fandom and he’s everything that is love.

“This is for, Big Jeff.”

Self Esteem – the stage name of Rebecca Taylor – dedicated You Forever from her 2021 album Prioritise Pleasure to Jeff.

She said: “This song is for big Jeff. Give it up for Big Jeff who’s not very well in the hospital. Let’s send out some positive vibes. I need to see him back out in the crowd.”
