July debut for soundsystem festival Sequences

By Adam Burrows  Thursday Apr 21, 2016

Noisia, Mala and Novelist are to headline Sequences, a new one-day festival in Bristol this summer.

A collaboration between Critical, Deep Medi and The Blast, the event takes place around Motion on July 23, and promises to make good use of the club’s outdoor spaces.

Critical – one of the world’s most respected drum & bass labels – will be putting the Void soundsystem through its pacees. As well as Noisia (pictured) and label chief Kasra, there will be sets from Mefjus, Emperor, Hyroglifics, Foreign Concept and Klax. Sam Binga – one of our favourite Bristol producers and a recent interviewee – is also due to play, and he’ll be joined by his regular MC and sparring partner Redders.

Meanwhile, iconic dubstep label Deep Medi bring heavyweight talent from London, Bristol and Glasgow including a headline set from label founder Mala himself. Gorgon Sound, Commodo, Sir Spyro, Silkie and Kaiju are all booked, as are Mungo’s Hi Fi, who will also be supplying the sound.

The third stage is booked by The Blast – one of Bristol’s most successful promotions teams, and certainly no strangers to Motion. Lewisham grime MC (and emerging voice-of-a-generation) Novelist headlines their stage, which also features Benga, Capo Lee, IGLOOGHOST, Riz La Teef, Jetsss and The Blast DJs themselves. Levelz – a rap-grime-rave collective from Manchester whose LVL 11 mixtape blew our minds when it dropped back in January – are also playing, and it should be a highlight.

With more to be announced in the next few weeks including at least one “very special guest”, Sequences is shaping up to be a welcome addition to Bristol’s summer party season.

Sequences is at Motion, July 23. For more information and tickets visit www.sequences.co.uk or www.facebook.com/sequencesUK
