Longest Johns recruit fans for global Wellerman singalong

By Martin Booth  Thursday Feb 4, 2021

Bristol’s sea shanty superstars The Longest Johns are continuing to make waves in 2021.

Fresh from their version of Wellerman getting into the top-40 singles chart, being signed by a major record label, selling out two shows at the Thekla in December and announcing a third, and being revealed as support for Skinny Lister‘s UK tour, the band are now embarking on their most ambitious ever project.

They have asked their fans across the world to help create a mass community choir version of Wellerman, following a similar video they made in 2020 for their song, Leave Her Johnny.

“We’re doing it!” The Longest Johns told their growing community of fans across the world. “We’ve decided to create a mass community version of Wellerman!”

The instructions are all contained within the video on the band’s YouTube channel, which now has more than 250,000 subscribers.

“Submissions are only open until Friday 12th February,” add the band. “So warm up those vocal chords and get recording quick!”
