New techno music event to take place
The teams behind Kiss My Kick Drums, Croaktek and Happy Daze are bringing a brand new event to Bristol this month.
Taking place at The Clock Factory on May 19, Foundation Techno aims to bring some of the biggest names in the industry for a night focused solely on techno music.
“The name is kind of playing on the fact that people do foundation courses, we’ve called it like an education,” Dave Slinks, one of the founders of Foundation Techno, told Bristol24/7.
is needed now More than ever
“The noise isn’t just about the sound, it’s about everything that influences that sound. Our little tagline is the education in tech and so we’re going to have a variety of different styles but it’s not going to be the normal stuff that people will know.”

The techno sound is at the forefront of the new event as the team believe there is not another like this in the city.
“I wouldn’t say there’s any other raw techno night,” said Dave. “There’s this whole other genre that’s getting played now in the underground scene in techno that people didn’t really know about, and especially in Bristol, it’s so jungle and DnB focused that people don’t realise there’s a whole other scene of music.
“We’re just trying to push a new sound and bring pure tech which I think is quite rare. For us, especially being known for our techno music, I feel like it’s quite important that we keep it strictly techno.”
The aim of the event is to bring together huge headliners, Bristol’s underground techno community, high-quality sound, production, lighting and live visuals to a unique venue.
Headlining the event are Juliet Fox (Drumcode) and Alex Stein (Filth on Acid), alongisde one of Bristol’s prominent trans music producers and DJs Mandidextrous (Ram Records) performing under their techno alias Boxxi.
It was important to the team to make the night as safe and inclusionary as possible for not only attendees but also the artists on the bill.
“We’re not going to say this is an LGBT event but it is important to us that it is inclusive to everyone,” continued Dave.
“Mandy and any other performers that we have, friends who might not be fully trans but enjoy cross-dressing when they DJ, I don’t want them to feel like they can’t be themselves when they’re playing. There’s no place for prejudice or harassment.”
The team hope to run the event on a semi-regular basis and they will also be doing a takeover on one of the stages at Boomtown in summer 2023.
