Preview: Bristol Burns, Trinity Centre
Vogue Bristol is set to put on a night of ballroom, dance, drag and cocktails on Saturday, March 4 at the Trinity Centre which is set to be a celebration of life and love and freedom and community.
Kicking off with a screening of Paris is Burning in the gorgeous upstairs chapel at Trinity, completed with a 20-strong gospel choir and blessing from the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. Action then moves to the main hall with a drag cabaret performance and vogue categories and battles – all soundtracked by a stellar DJ line-up with all the proceeds going to Prism, the LGBT branch of Bristol Drugs Project.
Lottie Ball, one of the organisers, kindly answered some questions about the project….

What was the drive behind Bristol Burns?
Can you tell me a bit about Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence?
The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence (SPI), also called Order of Perpetual Indulgence (OPI) is a charity, protest, and street performance organization that uses drag and religious imagery to call attention to sexual intolerance and satirizes issues of gender and morality. At their inception in 1979, a small group of gay men in San Francisco began wearing the attire of nuns in visible situations using high camp to draw attention to social conflicts and problems in the Castro District. The Bristol chapter is a growing force in the sexual political landscape here, offering advocacy, support and an unfailing commitment to human rights.
It will be amazing if we can raise some useful funds for Prism but at the same time we hope to give people a chance to live their fantasy, to be seen, applauded and accepted. We want to create a safe, non-judgemental space for everyone to have loads of fun and express themselves as they wish through costume and movement and LOVE 🙂
